Alpha Sigma Kappa myUMBC Icon Alpha Sigma Kappa – Women in Technical Studies is a social sorority for women who are studying STEM. Our Zeta chapter was established at UMBC in 2005 and since then we have been an active part of campus life. We accept new members in the first month of both Spring and Fall semesters. All new members must: have a cumulative GPA above 2.5, have already completed their first semester either at UMBC or at another academic institution, be willing to commit to attending a weekly meeting, and commit to paying a membership fee each semester. Delta Phi Epsilon myUMBC Icon Delta Phi Epsilon was formed for the purpose of promoting good fellowship among sorority woman…to help…in acquiring knowledge, appreciation, discriminating judgment, and a true feeling of sisterly love, through the interaction, one upon the other, of sympathetic and friendly natures. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc myUMBC Icon Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. A sisterhood of more than 300,000 predominately Black college educated women, the Sorority currently has over 900 chapters located in the United States, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas and the Republic of Korea. Ethics Bowl myUMBC Icon Ethics bowl is a form of value-centered debate in which students spend a semester studying a series of cases designed to resist easy characterization. We develop positions on these cases and then defend those positions through active discussion with other schools and cross-examination by judges. Webex
Fencing Club myUMBC Icon UMBC Fencing is a club sport oriented around the sport of fencing. We teach all three weapons ( Epee, Foil, Saber). No former fencing experience is required to join the club. We also field a competitive team which competes in the BWCFC conference. Official practices are 8:30pm- 9:50pm in the RAC fitness studio every Tuesday and Thursday. We also have unofficial practices at a local fencing club ( Salle Pallasz) in Catonsville. This club is free for UMBC students to practice at during the semester and is a great deal for anybody who is interested in learning to fence or to continue to develop their talent. Webex
Ice Hockey Club myUMBC Icon UMBC Ice Hockey was established in 1988, providing student-athletes the opportunity to continue competing at the collegiate level of hockey. Our values include Academic Commitment, Community Involvement, and Excellence Since its inception, our program has focused on developing well-rounded student athletes who are prepared for exhibiting UMBC’s motto of true grit, both on and off the ice. In addition to their athletic commitment, our players are expected to maintain a quality GPA and are required to participate in the community. Lambda Phi Epsilon myUMBC Icon Lambda Phi Epsilon was founded on February 25, 1981 by a group of nineteen dedicated men led by principal founder Mr. Craig Ishigo. The goal of the founders was to transcend the limitations faced by traditional Asian-interest organizations on campus. While these organizations were often split along lines of national origins, the founders sought an establishment that drew its membership equally from the different segments of the Asian American community. Their vision was that the members would eventually become the leaders of their respective ethnic communities, and thus, bridge the gaps fragmenting the Asian American community through their affiliation with a common organization. Mock Trial Team myUMBC Icon The UMBC Mock Trial Program is nationally ranked by the American Mock Trial Association and has competed at the Opening Round Championship Series (ORCS) six years in a row (’15, ’16, ’17, ’18, ’19, and ’20). Each academic school year, we receive case materials to prepare for invitational tournaments hosted at various universities throughout the academic school year and the AMTA sponsored playoff tournaments in the spring semester. Each team may consist of up to 10 members who will play at least one role on either the side of the defense or the side of the prosecution/plaintiff (for criminal/civil cases respectively). The primary roles in Mock Trial are witness and attorney. There are various types of witnesses presented in each case — character witnesses tend to be involved in the incident and testify in the capacity of what they have witnessed while expert witnesses analyze the facts of the case scientifically to provide a conclusion based on their knowledge, education, and professional experience. National Pan Hellenic Council myUMBC Icon The National Pan-Hellenic Council, or Divine 9, was founded on May 10, 1930 at Howard University in Washington, DC. Currently, it is composed of: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.
