American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), The myUMBC Icon UMBC AIAA is the university’s branch of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a professional society for the field of aerospace engineering. Our group serves as a focal point for all things aerospace-related. We participate in collegiate aerospace design challenges, host guest speakers from the field, network with industry members, visit aerospace engineering facilities, and much more. No experience is required. We are seeking all majors and all years. Webex
American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) myUMBC Icon UMBC AIChE is the University of Maryland, Baltimore County’s chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. We are a student-run professional organization dedicated to enhancing the engineering experience of the undergraduate chemical engineers at UMBC, by organizing various member activities including: plant tours to local industries, career building workshops, professional guest speakers, student social events, and collaboration efforts with other local student chapters and professional engineers in the local Maryland area. As an active student chapter, we intend to assist all chemical engineering students as they develop their skills in preparation for the workforce or continued education. Webex

Ancient Studies Council myUMBC Icon The Ancient Studies Council is, mostly, made up of students with Ancient Studies declared as their major. However, all those interested in ancient studies, ancient history, archaeology, museum studies, and other related subjects, are welcome to join. We gather to discuss, celebrate, and enjoy our collective interest in all things ancient. May it be in the form of social events, meet and greets with professionals in the field, and field trips. Anthropology Club myUMBC Icon Anthropology Club has been established for the purpose of the education surrounding anthropology by promoting cultural relativism, an anthropological term celebrating diversity and mutual respect of differences. Anthropology club aims to strengthen relationships within the community by bringing together people of different backgrounds through campus gatherings, workshops, and guest speakers. The club also aims to support students in the study of anthropology at UMBC, both within the major and across campus. Webex
Army ROTC The Blue Jay Battalion is a unit in the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) that uses world-class leadership training to transform college students into US Army officers. The program is hosted at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and consists of cadets from JHU, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Stevenson University, University of Baltimore, and the Maryland Institute College of Art. Bartleby (The Creative Arts Journal of UMBC) myUMBC Icon Bartleby is a student-run journal that publishes a collection of Short Fiction and Nonfiction, Poetry, and Photography and visual art produced by UMBC’s undergrads each year. We host Poetry Night at the beginning of each semester, and we take part in the Homecoming Poetry Slam. It also serves as a meeting ground for like-minded individuals to enjoy science together in a non-academic setting. SAE Snowmobile Club myUMBC Icon We are a group of students who modify a stock snowmobile to make it more effective, environmentally friendly, and overall better. The vehicle is modified based on students’ areas of interest and all of the research, design, analysis, and testing is done by students. All of our hard work builds up to the annual SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge, an international competition where student teams from different universities compete. Members on the team strive to learn information and methods of application outside of a typical classroom setting while working in an interdisciplinary real world setting. We host workshops where students can learn to machine parts, use analysis software, and advanced analysis equipment. No prior knowledge is required! Webex

Society of Automotive Engineers myUMBC Icon The UMBC Baja SAE team was reestablished in 2002 and has been competing in all three North American events each year since 2010. The dedication of our team members is one of the keys to our success. In addition to the typical degree course load, new members spend approximately 5 to 15 hours, and senior members spend upwards of 30+ hours a week working on the project without receiving classroom credit. There are typically between 15 and 25 members, consisting of both undergraduate and graduate students. Many of our undergraduate members continue on to graduate studies at UMBC. The backgrounds of our members are diverse, ranging from materials research to management to racing. The project allows members apply classroom theory to a real world problem while enhancing teamwork and project management skills. Webex

An actuary puts a price tag on future risks. They have been called financial architects, and social mathematicians because of their unique combination of analytical and business skills is helping to solve a growing variety of financial and social problems.
